When Children Need Eye Exams

The Canadian Association of Optometrists has outlined a responsible exam schedule for children. This schedule is for children with normally developing vision. You may have to see us more often if your child is showing signs of vision problems.

Your infant’s first eye exam should occur at about 6 months old.
Make sure your child has at least one eye exam between 2 and 5 years old.
Young people from the age of 6-19 should get an eye exam annually.

Being Aware of Your Child’s Changes

The human eye usually experiences the greatest change in shape between the ages of 8-20. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is becoming increasingly common in pre-teens and adolescents.
